Project horse series - Tivo's diary part 5
Tivo continues to delight us with his lovely work ethic and attitude. He is building up amazingly even though he is only worked about 3 or 4 times a week, originally only for about 20 mins, and now up to around 40 mins. His topline which was so weak, is now looking very different, in fact he looks like an entirely different horse to 3 months ago when he first started work here under saddle. He is learning now that he has the strength to hold his neck up, having been ridden in serreta noseband and only on a curb bit, to start to lengthen the neck, although we are not looking for him to ‘take the contact’ in the German way but to carry himself, as this builds the muscle so much better. Hence you will see that Kay’s reins a lot of the time are actually even slightly looped. He has just started canter, and we have left in the film of him striking off incorrectly etc to show it warts and all!
I hope you will all see how effective these French classical methods are in allowing the horse to build muscle with absolutely no force.
