June 2018 - French classical
Introduction to the school of French classical equitation by Heather Moffett
The first two videos show our guinea pig horse and rider, Rebecca Harris and her lovely 14 yr old KWPN, Sellie. Becky is a level 4 Parelli instructor and teaches a lot abroad, as well as in the UK, and is training classically as well, with a Portuguese friend of Heather's. She has already taught Sellie work to advanced level, but I hope she will let me work on her seat now, to compliment the picture. Sellie is extremely bouncy and Becky mostly rides him in a bareback pad! How she even stays on is beyond me, as he is pretty sharp as well. So, this is only the second time Heather has taught Rebecca. The first was more of an assessment for the EE teacher training and I think she was also very unsure what to expect, but she had enjoyed the first session and willingly stepped forward for this one. Heather is hoping to work with Becky once a month and although it doesn’t help with her being abroad so much, to keep her riding going practise-wise, the next lesson we will concentrate specifically to get Rebecca sitting to that difficult movement as well as possible.
The third video is Anna Mayne and her 13 yr old ex racer, Dude, acting as a guinea pig for EE teacher training. We thought it might be of interest to members to see how we train the eye of our teaching students, on the first module, with Heather teaching and the students observing. The teacher trainees are asked to write down their own initial observations and thoughts, and we then discuss them later in the lecture room. Anna was delighted with her lesson and says she will happily volunteer again!
