Dec 2017 - motivating the "stuffy" horse
This month Heather looks at motivating the less forward going or "stuffy" horse/pony, courtesy of Fitzworthy Equestrian Centre. We hired a couple of Kim's school ponies, as a number of OCRA members had asked how to motivate the less forward going horse or pony. Kim supplied her two least forward going little cobs (although that depends on the rider's experience and ability), Oliver and Denzel. So here we threw Laura in at the deep end, as she had to work the ponies as though schooling them. She has come on so much again this last few weeks and is capable now of teaching the horse lateral exercises, when 5 months ago, Laura had never even ridden them! So here she is on Oliver, the little fluffy black one, teaching him some counter shoulder in and leg yield, and Denzel, the skewbald with the handlebar moustache. We popped Denzel into the pelham for the second part of the session and, as usual, it made a big difference to his way of going. I was so pleased with Laura who had never ridden either before.
Also featured this month is the final video in the "before and after" series of Laura and Heidi and the second in the series of Kay's long reining videos.
